May Meeting To Include Speaker Barb Holtz

Tuesday, May 5 is the next regular monthly meeting. As with other regular month meetings, this meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. at the South Euclid Community Center at 1370 Victory Drive, South Euclid, OH 44121.

* Barb Holtz will talk to us about invasive plants including their identification and removal.

* "This information will be very important to all of us as we move forward with stewardship of the Goldenrod Meadow," says Fran Hogg, President of FOEC.

April 7 Meeting Recap

The April 2009 meeting was held at the South Euclid Community Center. President Fran Hogg asked that members be sure to fully complete all the information when they send in their annual dues. This is so that we can clean up the database.

Brian Friedman, Executive Director of the Northeast Shores, gave a presentation concerning the work of his organization. Details at http://www.northeastshores.org/initiatives.php cover issues such as the Euclid Beach Fishing Pier Study, Lakeshore Plan, and Lower Euclid Creek Greenway Plan discussed by Brian at the meeting.

Claire Posius, Euclid Creek Watershed Coordinator, described upcoming events of interest and noted the success of the recently held rain barrel workshop. * Friday, April 17 - Beachwood Green Dream Event - need volunteers 1 to 7:30 for the FOEC booth.



* Saturday, Sept. 12 - Euclid Creek Stream Cleanup Event - 10AM - Wildwood State Park, Cleveland - Volunteers are needed.

Here are some other items of note from the meeting.

* Volunteers are needed for the FOEC organization to be membership chairperson, grants chairperson, and club liaison.

* FOEC holiday party is to be the first Tuesday in December at the Mayfield Village Community Center.

Greenwood Farms - Cleanup and rough carpentry work

SATURDAY, APRIL 25, 2009 @ 10:00am - 2:00pm

"Come join the fun and work again at Greenwood Farm" says Frank Skala. "This will eventually be home of the FOEC organization. Please read the details below and plan to join the work party plus hike the beautiful ravine and falls area. Greenwood Farm is at 264 Richmond Road. Meet at the back building."

* Bring safety gear such as safety glasses and dust masks.
* Start clean-up at 10:00am.
* Between 1:00 to 2:00 pm be ready to hike.
* Hike is to include the ravine from behind the cottage back to Richmond Road and the falls area.
* We should be completed by 3:00pm.
* Hikers should bring boots. We will at times be in the creek bed. The water usually is only several inches(2”-3”)deep.

* CARPENTRY TOOLS – HAMMERS – NAIL PULLERS - CHISELS – PRY BARS
* SQUARE END SHOVELS – SMALL GARBAGE CANS
* 4 FOOT, 6 FOOT, 8 FOOT STEP LADDERS
* HEAVY DUTY GLOVES AND WORK SHOES ARE A MUST

Regular monthly meetings are normally held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the South Euclid Community Center at 1370 Victory Drive, South Euclid, OH 44121.

Invasive Plant Pull
Meet at Wildwood State Park 16975 Wildwood Dive off Lakeshore Boulevard at 10:00.
Bring garden or work gloves and drinking water.
Try a garlic mustard snack after the pull.

* May 16
Dike 14
Parking at Gordon State Park, from North Marginal between East 72nd and MLK.
Guided hikes and bird walks at 7:30 - 8:30 - 9:30 & 10:30.
Self guided tours from noon to 3:00 staffed by environmental education organizations.


* June 13
VFW nature tour.
VFW located on White rd at 11:00.
We will be guided by one of our own FOEC members.


* July
Date to be announced
Tour of the TRW site on Richmond Road.
